Movie Opener Brainstorming and Research.

1. Rise:

The use of the text on the screen during the opening were really well made and neat. Along with the usual usage of the Camera shots and tricks, the camera during the first few seconds of this opening are Hand-Held as its shaky at times, and the use of incidental music, that they picked for this opening was also pretty well done. They also have a montage of the boy putting his soccer equipment on. They also utilize one of the camera techniques which is a cut on action, an example of this can be seen of when the boy kicks the ball into the net as the camera is then showing the ball being kicked directly in it. The use of Mise-en-scene is also shown, as the location is seen to be a soccer place,  as the character that is training with the ball is shown to be training, with his costume being his uniform and his props being the soccer ball and nets. The use of framing for each shot with the boy and the ball heavily differentiate from each other. This Film shows us to keep trying in order to push your potential further and to keep rising until you can’t anymore.

2. Dear Lover

The opening first starts by showing different shots of nature, along with the little lake that’s shown during the first few seconds of the opening. There’s also a variety of color such as green to resemble the fertility of nature that’s shown to us. And especially the use of incidental music during the beginning, to also show the calming nature of what is shown to use. When the screen turns to black we are greeted by a girl who speaks about her life issues and her struggles when she first turned 18. Due to her being around a judgmental family and how they didn’t approve of her relationship with her girlfriend. After being deep in her thoughts, her girlfriend arrives next to her side, as both a two shot and a shot/reverse shot are used for both characters, as they comfort each other in a hug. This film shows anger, sadness, and hope for the relationship that the two characters hope to keep.

3. Dare To Thrill.

The opening first starts by using a transition which is a dissolve, as we first see our characters grouped up in a circle around each other, as they start walking to a destination that they are going to. A jump-cut is also introduced while they are walking, showing the front of back. As incidental music plays in the background to add a sort of dramatic atmosphere of the characters, this music is a prime example of Non-Diegetic as we, the audience are only able to hear it and not any of the characters. The characters are then seen heading towards a car, and when they enter multiple uses of cutting on action can be seen, along with cross-cutting to show that they are in multiple locations while drive the car, this also works as a montage as well during this section. When the car stops, the characters get out the car and open the trunk, with the music in the background stopping. As they are shocked with what they see.

4. Always Watching.

When the opening first starts, the first transition that occurs is the fade out, as two characters are having dialogue with each other, as the camera then cuts to the boy who’s in a close/up shot as he’s seen talking to the other character regarding his obsession with his best friends life and how he stalks him to see what makes him tick. As a cross cut happens where we are introduced to his best friend and how it shows the events and his unhinged obsession with his best friend. As he stares at his friend leaving on an over the shoulder shot. Eerie music also plays during this cross cut to make an unsettling atmosphere. And the next cross cut is him walking in the dark, while the camera follows him. Mostly likely hand-held, There are also ambient sounds during these cross-cuts. This film opening mostly introduces an heavily unsettling and uneasy atmosphere revolving about the insanity the boy is feeling about his best friend.

5. White Coat

The opening shows a mysterious light along with smoke surrounding the light, and in the next shot. The sound of flasks and glass can be heard. Most likely an experiment is happening, water can also be heard pouring as well. Multiple cutaways can be seen with the persons shoes being shown as it cuts to the doctors with a surgical mask and then back to the persons shoes. The lighting is extremely dark for a majority of the film, only showing normal lights at times. Along with intense and eerie incidental music to create a sort of thriller and uneasy atmosphere, during all of this, the scientists can be seen making something. How it’s unknown what they are making do to it being out of view. As the last shot shows a close up of a character staring into the camera before the opening ends. This film invokes a sense of mystery and a sense of unknown uneasiness.

Summary: After Thinking and watching all of these sort opening films, my decision about my film opening and my main idea would probably be psychological thriller, with it having a happy and peaceful soundtrack at first, with everything seeming normal on the screen, however the more the opening goes by. The more darker and eerie it gets from it having slightly distorting music and subtle hints of something malicious, to fully showing what the opening is actually about by revealing it’s true colors. This mainly works as a sort of fake-out film where everything seems ok at first, to taking on a much darker tone.
