Moodboards

 The conventions that I have for my mood-board mainly follows the genre of horror. Horror is a genre that mainly that is meant to startle, scare or shock audiences, it’s usually a theme that is meant to catch the audience off guard. What makes me interested in this genre is the aura of shock and fear one can experience from it, you are even able to strike fear into an audience without making any sort of jump-scares. Even an atmosphere can make someone feel unease or feel uncomfortable, and usually the main theme of a horror movie is either complete despair against something you know you can’t fight or win against. And another recurring theme in horror movies is colors, the colors that a horror villain usually has, represents malicious intent or danger. The colors associated with this most of the time are dark or red (Sometimes a darker version of a color. ) Aside from color we have props, Props in horror movies are usually knives, chainsaws, guns, machetes, and even saws. These types of props are what defines most slashers and it’s what makes them iconic. And it’s also another thing that represents danger aside from colors. I will show some examples at the bottom.

My Moodboard represents the theme of my movie genre, which is how colors can associate with danger. Such as Jason Voorhees or Chucky, the design and props they have represents something to be afraid of or feared due to their appearances. such as Ghostface, Ghostface Is a costume in which nobody would be exactly afraid of. His color being black to resemble that of a person willing to do harm or cause great evil, to the people around them. The Same goes for Chucky as well, he poses as a normal doll that children would usually play with. And ironically, his design describes his violent personality. With his hair being red usually known as a sign as either danger or violence. And one last example of this would be Jason Voorhees. In which his most iconic feature about him, is his mask. His mask works as a prop to define his character, as he usually wears a mask to hide his true self from others, aside from this the mask has the color red on it, with the red resembling either slashes or cuts. Indicating the murderous and Malicious intent behind it. All of the characters seen on the moodboard are ones that spark fear and unease due to their various elements and key designs. Which is mainly their colors and props, and that’s what makes me so interested in them, as just looking at them makes you feel so uneasy due to their designs. And that’s my most favorite part about horror. As the main purpose of horror movies to give make people feel fear, and characters such as the ones in the moodboard do an excellent job at that, which is why I think my moodboard perfectly represents the theme of Horror as it showcases famous slashes that have strike fear into people for many years.
